conversation about Reiki!
What is
Reiki? Reiki is a generic term for an Usui System of Natural Healing.
Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a Japanese word meaning universal life energy.
Reiki is the natural, vital healing force found in all life. Most Usui
systems of Reiki Healing, like the Usui Shiki Ryoho of the Reiki Alliance
and Jikiden Reiki of the Jikiden Reiki Kenkyukai (Research Institute) are
hands on and distant spiritual healing practices that open and develop the
natural latent human self-healing energy. Reiki balances body, mind, heart
and spirit in a specific, structured way that involves light, gentle,
non-intrusive, non-manipulative respectful touch and compassionate regard
and attention of a human being towards other living beings.
Reiki is easy to learn,
easy to use, centering and calming. Although Reiki has Buddhist and Shinto
spiritual and philosophical origins, Reiki is not a religion, but a
spiritual meditation and practice with ethical principles called the Gokai ,
a lovely version by Rika Tanaka can be found on youtube

Claire has been Reiki Master in Hawayo Takata's
Reiki lineage since 1988 and is a member of the Reiki Alliance, an
international organization of Reiki Masters, Hawayo Takata began studying
Reiki with Dr. Chujiro Hayashi in 1936 and after a time became a Reiki
Teacher or Shihan a Japanese word that she translated as Master. Chujiro
Hayashi was one of Mikao Usui, the founder of Reiki's 22 Shihans.
In 1981 a group of Hawayo Takata's Reiki Masters
met in Lumby, British Columbia, Canada to plan a memorial for Hawayo Takata.
At the meeting they talked about the foundation of an Alliance of Reiki
Masters. In the spring of 1982, a group of Reiki Masters gathered with
Phyllis Lei Furumoto, Takata's granddaughter and one her Reiki Masters, in
Hawaii to honor the memory of Hawayo Takata and to share their experiences
of her as their initiating Reiki Master. The group agreed to meet together
annually. The second meeting in 1983 resulted in the formation of The Reiki
Alliance.
Emerald City Reiki Center also offers Jikiden Reiki Shoden (Level 1) and Okuden (Level 2) seminars. Jikiden Reiki is a
Japanese Usui Reiki system practiced by students of Chujiro Hayashi in Japan
in the 1930's and onward. Jikiden Reiki is now taught and practiced
worldwide. Claire O'Shea took her first Jikiden Reiki Shoden and Okuden
seminars in the fall of 2009, took the Shihan kaku or Apprentice Teacher
seminar in March 2010, and became a Shihan in October 2010.
Claire is also a fully certified Jikiden Reiki Shihan of the Jikiden Reiki Kenkyukai (Institute), Kyoto, Japan. The Jikiden Reiki Institute traces its Usui Reiki lineage from its founders Chiyoko
Yamaguchi and her son Tadao Yamaguchi back to Chujiro Hayashi and Mikao Usui
through Mrs. Yamaguchi and her uncle Wasaburo Sugano who brought Dr. Chujiro
Hayashi to Ishikawa, Japan to teach his extended family Reiki.
Chiyoko Yamaguchi first learned Reiki from Chujiro
Hayashi in 1938 in Ishikawa, Japan at the age of 17. She practiced and
taught the Reiki she learned for 65 years until her death in 2003. Currently
Tadao Yamaguchi heads the Jikiden Reiki Kenkyukai (Research Institute) and
he and his Shihans teach Jikiden Reiki worldwide. Claire O'Shea is one the
Shihans taught by Tadao Yamaguchi. Claire teaches Jikiden Reiki at Emerald
City Reiki Center and throughout the Northwest US.
Claire is also one of the founders of the Jikiden Reiki Association an organization promoting and supporting the teaching and
practice of Jikiden Reiki by Jikiden Reiki Shihans and Jikiden Reiki practitioners globally.
Reiki improves quality of life, health and
engenders a sense of well-being and natural happiness in the individuals who
receive, practice or teach Reiki. While every person's response to
Reiki is unique, at the end of a Reiki treatment many people relate that
they feel both relaxed and energized at the same time -- like after a good
massage. But unlike a massage the body is not manipulated and no oils,
creams, or lotions or removal of clothing is necessary. We believe and have
personal experience that Reiki is also very helpful and beneficial for both
plants animals and by extension the environment. We have personal, clinical
and anecdotal experience of and highly recommend Reiki as a complementary
alternate medicine along with conventional cancer treatment, naturopathic
and homeopathic treatment and acupuncture as Reiki supports the body's own
latent self-healing ability . We have also found that Reiki can help with:
- Relationship issues, marriage, partnership,
divorce or break-ups
- High blood
pressure, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, other chronic diseases
- Stress, depression,
anxiety, worry, insomnia, fatigue, eating disorders
- Rheumatoid, osteoarthritis, bursitis
- Chronic pain, accidents and injury, broken
bones, sprains, contusions
Surgery: both
before and after care, especially healing from surgery
Stroke, heart attack. circulation
problems
Abuse: physical, mental, emotional, sexual
Substance and
sexual addiction recovery, support, therapy support, mental and
emotional health issues
Endometriosis, aging, pregnancy, postpartum
issues, menopause
Prostate conditins, aging, midlife angst
